Preparations have begun for the withdrawal of SADC troops from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The chiefs of the Defence Forces from the Southern African Development Community (SADC) recently met with the M23 movement in Goma to discuss the logistics.

Following a decision by SADC and East African Community (EAC) heads of state, the withdrawal will take place in phases.

The meeting also confirmed that the Goma airport will be rehabilitated for this purpose, with SADC forces allowed to take their weapons as they depart.

In the meantime, M23 representatives have arrived in Qatar for peace talks with the Emir in Doha.
