The Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Ronald Lamola, says South Africa looks forward to strengthening relations with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The Minister and Deputy Minister, Alvin Botes, met with DRC Foreign Minister Theresa Kayikwamba Wagner to discuss issues of peace, security, as well as trade relations.
Lamola says the discussions have been fruitful.
“As we conclude these political consultations, I wish to thank you for your visit to South Africa. Indeed, our discussions were fruitful, and I look forward to our next engagement together. Please be assured that my department will shortly communicate a proposed date for the review meeting that will launch the preparations for the 13th session of the bi-annual commission, which South Africa is looking forward to hosting. I wish to reiterate that it can only be for the benefit of both of our countries that will leverage our friendship and strong relations to deepen our economic partnership.”
Kayikwamba Wagner says political consultations with South Africa have been constructive and fruitful. She says that through their joint partnerships, the two countries can contribute to the shared prosperity of the SADC region.
“I wish to congratulate us on paving the way forward for our respective teams to work towards clear deadlines and towards clear milestones that will enable us to build on the lessons learned from the last BNC that was hosted by the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in July 2023. And, therefore, pave the way to make sure that the next one, which we look forward to, will be hosted by South Africa, and one that is aimed at making sure that our commitments translate into concrete and tangible results.”
